Grey Lion has yet to race in Australia but remains an outright $3.30 favourite in 2016 Geelong Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Oceanographer ($3.40) and Kinema ($4.50).

Will Grey Lion justify favouritism and win the 2016 Geelong Cup or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

1st

Kinema ($4.50)

Kinema is another horse that will have his first Australian start this afternoon and the talented is more than worth consideration for a bet at current $4.50 Geelong Cup odds. Taking out each of the Al Basti Equiworld Stakes (2816m) and Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (2414m) through May and June this year, the Galileo gelding failed to fire at his two most recent starts but has reportedly arrived in excellent condition. Drawn on the rails with Craig Newitt in the saddle, Kinema should have no issue performing to a high standard with only 54kgs in tow.

2nd

Qewy ($5)

British Godolphin raider Qewy has found excellent form this season, will carry only 54kgs and has been confirmed to be partnered by Kerrin McEvoy in the Geelong Cup 2016. A standout for prominent trainer Charlie Appleby, the Street Cry gelding returned from a spell to finish a close second in the Ascot Stakes (4023m) on June 14th before again placing second in the Summer Stakes (2816m) at Goodwood last time out on July 26th. Qewy could very well receive the run of the race in the Geelong Cup from barrier 6 and is a leading chance of a first three finish.

3rd

Swacadelic ($26)

Swacadelic has been a notable performer in Country Cups races in 2016 and in a field containing only eight runners, is undoubtedly over the Geelong Cup odds at his current quote. Winning the Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) and finishing third in the Listed Warrnambool Cup (2350m) most notably in autumn, Swacadelic ran well in his first two starts this time, but has been unable to match it with Saturday-grade horses in two black type starts most recently. Michael Walker will take the ride on Swacadelic from barrier 7.
