Having returned to racing in slick form this time in, More Than Sacred has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success in Geelong Cup betting markets and is currently available at generous odds of $5 for success, ahead of market mover Zanbagh ($5.50), Sertorius ($6) and Caravan Rolls On ($6.50) at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will More Than Sacred justify favouritism and win the 2014 Geelong Cup, or will one of her classy rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Sertorius ($6)

Undoubtedly the stable star of trainers Jamie Edwards and Bruce Elkington, Sertorius is yet to find peak condition over three starts this time in, but is without doubt the class horse confirmed in the Geelong Cup final field and should have no issues in performing on his home track this afternoon. Performing to a typically high standard over the Autumn Carnival, the Galileo gelding finished second in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) first-up and continued to build in form and class on his way to fourth in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) and third in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) most notably. Allocated the wide barrier 11, Sertorius should be able to find ideal running position within the pack before launching a late assault on the 2014 Geelong Cup, and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current odds.

2nd

Zanbagh ($5.50)

Charged with carrying just 54kgs in the 2014 Geelong Cup this afternoon, Zanbagh has exceptional form in major staying events over 2400m and arguably offers punters the best value for money at current $5.50 odds for success or $2.15 to finish in the places. Securing a commendable record of three wins and a further four minor places from her 15 competitive appearances on course to date, the Bernardini mare was a standout performer over the 2013 Spring Carnival, peaking with a close second in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 7th. Continuing to impressive over a five race autumn prep which was highlighted by another unlucky run for second in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) on April 19th, Zanbagh ran a credible third in the Benalla Cup (2046m) last time out and appears primed for a strong performance in the Geelong Cup.

3rd

Shoreham ($7.50)

More than worth consideration for a Geelong Cup bet at $7.50 odds, Shoreham finishing a fighting seventh in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) last time out but will have to overcome barrier 10 if to return to the winner’s circle this afternoon. Claiming three wins and a further seven minors over his 25 start career, the Reset gelding finished an impressive third in the featured Warrnambool Cup (2350m) over a strong autumn preparation and has been confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Chris Symons in the 2014 Geelong Cup.
