Fiorente Could Deliver Waterhouse First 2012 Melbourne Cup Win

November 2nd, 2012

With Gai Waterhouse searching for her first ever Melbourne Cup win, jockey James McDonald believes Fiorente is her best chance of achieving that dream in 2012.

Fiorente was worked by McDonald earlier today and was incredibly impressed with how the four-year-old has progressed.

“He looks great, he’s in with a light reason, there’s no reason why he can’t (win),” McDonald said.

“I thought his work was great.

“He’s improved out of sight every day.”

Fiorente has not run since finishing fourth in the Group 2 Longchamp Qatar Prix Foy in France on September 16, 2012.

McDonald feels the Monsum entire will perform best fresh in the 2012 Melbourne Cup.
“It is getting exciting. The day’s getting closer and closer,” McDonald said.

“He was good this morning. He just bowled over 1600m. I let him slide down the back here.

“He worked into the corner really well and when I gave him a squeeze up the straight, he extended really well, I thought.

“He ran through the line well, too.

“He’s got a lovely big stride and the cut in the ground won’t worry him.”

Fiorente has won two of his eight race starts and has earned more than $150,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
