Geelong Cup 2012 – Nominations Released

Nominations have been released for the Group 3 Geelong Cup, which is due to run at Geelong Racecourse next Wednesday October 24, 2012.

The 2012 Geelong Cup is one of the final opportunities for horses to gain entry into the Group 1 Melbourne Cup 2012.

A total of 23 horses have nominated for the 2012 Geelong Cup, including Maluckyday, who failed to make the field for the 2012 Caulfield Cup this weekend.

Maluckyday has won five of his 16 race starts and has earned more than $1.3 million in prize money during his horse racing career.

The Zabeel gelding is in top form going into the 2012 Geelong Cup after placing second in the Listed The Bart Cummings at Flemington Racecourse last start.

Maluckyday is nominated for the $6 million Melbourne Cup this spring carnival and will be looking for a lead-up win in the 2012 Geelong Cup next Wednesday.

Alos included in the 2012 Geelong Cup nominations is Gatewood.

Gatewood will also not make the final field for the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup and will be relying on the 2012 Geelong Cup in order to make the Melbourne Cup field.

The Galileo entire has won four of his eight race starts and has earned more than $100,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

His most recent result was a seventh in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes, where he was denied a run down the final straight.

Gatewood will be looking for more luck when he contests the 2012 Geelong Cup.
